About the FIPP Office
The University of Toronto has established the FIPP Office to handle matters related to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (the Act). The office oversees implementation and administration of access and protection of privacy in the University.
Key FIPP Office responsibilities include:
- coordinating the processing of access requests under the Act;
- education supporting University compliance with the Act and its principles; and
- protecting the personal privacy of students, faculty and staff.
For purposes of the Act, the “head” at the University of Toronto is the President of the University. Under section 62(1) of the Act, the President has delegated his authority to the FIPP Director and the FIPP Coordinator. Both the FIPP Director and the FIPP Coordinator work in the FIPP Office.
The FIPP Director
The FIPP Director is the University's final decision maker for requests under the Act. The role of the FIPP Director includes liaison and communication with the Information and Privacy Commissioner/Ontario ("the Commissioner"), including appeals, privacy matters and consultations.
